The Ontario government went further to announce a mandatory shutdown of all non-essential services.
March 15, 2020
- The Ontario Medical Association has announced that all "non-essential care and elective surgery must be temporarily put on hold to protect all health-care providers, patients and the public, and most importantly, to manage what we expect may be tremendous demand on the system from spread of the virus." Ongoing updates pending Ministry guidelines. Section on General Surgery and OAGS Executives STRONGLY SUPPORT this decision and urge our members to work with their hospitals to cancel all non urgent care interactions in a coordinated fashion with other surgical services.

COVID19 Symptoms

  • Fever, new cough, pneumonia, or difficulty breathing (or a combination of these symptoms)
  • Muscle aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat, hoarse voice, runny nose or diarrhea
  • Symptoms in young children may also be non-specific (i.e. lethargy, poor feeding, Kawasaki Disease)
  • Latest: impairment of senses (i.e. loss of taste/smell, stumbling, falling, dizziness, slurred speech, Covid Toe)
NOTE:  Whether you are a surgeon or a member of the public... If you're sick, no signs of illness but recently returned from a trip outside Canada or in close contact with someone who has been travelling or sick, you should self isolate for 14 days. If you are having difficulty breathing or experiencing other severe symptoms, call 911 immediately. Ontario MOH COVID19 Advance Payment Program

  • Ontario MOH COVID19 Advance Payment Program: download
  • These loan payments are automatic in May, June, July, 2020 for ALL Ontario physicians who qualify
  • Payment will appear as "EMERGE ADVANCE PAYMENT (COVID19)" under Accounting Transactions
  • Interest free loan
  • Monthly average derived based on previous 12mth payments (April2019-Mar2020) and this will be used to top up physician payments to 70% of this average.
  • Recipients must agree to terms (i.e. 5 equal payback installments against OHIP earnings commencing Nov.2020-Mar.2021)

Advance Payment Program: How to Opt Out

  • For months that have already been paid out (i.e. May), you can pay it back via cheque
