Overview
The Division of General Surgery at North York General Hospital (NYGH) invites applications
for a full-time Colorectal Surgeon to join our growing colorectal and gastrointestinal oncology
program. The anticipated start date is flexible.

North York General Hospital is a high-volume academic community hospital and a core
training site for University of Toronto General Surgery residents. Recognized nationally for

academic community hospital in Canada for the last 8 years. The Department of Surgery is
recognized for its strong culture of quality improvement, inter-professional collaboration,
innovation, and commitment to resident and learner education.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and collegial colorectal and GI oncology team
currently including of one colorectal surgeon and three surgical oncologists with expertise in
gastrointestinal malignancy and minimally invasive surgery.

NYGH provides a high-volume IBD, colorectal cancer and gastrointestinal oncology
environment, serving a large and diverse catchment area with strong multidisciplinary support.
The colorectal program includes expertise in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease
(IBD), pelvic floor disorders, anorectal surgery, and benign colorectal disease, with strategic
priorities focused on continued growth and innovation in:
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease
• Robotic colorectal surgery
• Pelvic floor and functional colorectal programs
• Young onset colorectal cancer initiatives and awareness programs

The successful candidate will join a program with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to
clinical innovation, program development, education, and research. This position offers a
unique opportunity to help shape one of the largest academic community colorectal and
gastrointestinal oncology programs in Ontario.

We are particularly seeking a surgeon with a strong clinical interest and expertise in
inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor dysfunction, who is motivated to help build and
advance these programs within a supportive academic environment.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative surgeon who thrives in a positive culture and is
interested in program development, innovation, education, quality improvement, and/or
clinical research.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive elective colorectal surgical care including advanced minimally invasive and robotic approaches
• Develop expertise and contribute to growth in inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor dysfunction and colorectal cancer programs
• Participate in multidisciplinary care with gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, nursing, and allied health teams
• Participate in colorectal cancer and IBD multidisciplinary care pathways
• Participate in Emergency General Surgery call (~1 in 15) and Acute Care Surgery service weeks
• Contribute to resident education and mentorship within the University of Toronto General Surgery training program
• Support clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and program innovation

Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
• Fellowship training in Colorectal Surgery
• FRCSC certification (or equivalent)
• Eligibility for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Eligibility for an academic appointment within the Department of Surgery, University of Toronto
• Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Expertise in robotic and advanced minimally invasive colorectal surgery
• Strong interest in inflammatory bowel disease surgery and pelvic floor dysfunction
• Interest and experience in quality improvement, education, research, and program
development are strongly encouraged
