Headwaters Health Care Centre is inviting applications for a permanent full-time General Surgeon to join the Department of Surgery, with an intended start date of September 1, 2026.
The successful candidate would be expected to maintain an outpatient practice and provide in-hospital care, including call coverage for the Emergency Department and inpatient units. The required call coverage averages to 1 in 4, following an ACS model of care. The candidate must have accredited training and be competent in performing a broad range of General Surgical procedures for benign and malignant diseases (breast, colorectal, abdominal wall, etc.) as well as endoscopy in both the elective and emergent settings. Equitable operating room and endoscopy time, Ambulatory Care clinics, as well as access to full Diagnostic Imaging resources (CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and MRI) are available. The candidate will have the opportunity to build and enhance the surgical program, to align with our purpose of providing excellent care, close to home.
Headwaters Health Care Centre is a community centered, medium-sized hospital providing both acute and complex continuing care, as well as 24/7 Emergency Department coverage. With over 700 staff and over 160 physicians, the hospital is accredited with Exemplary standing by Accreditation Canada. The hospital just launched a new 5 year strategic plan, which includes an exciting partnership with the Medical School at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Orangeville offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation, many thriving shops and restaurants, and lots of small town charm. We are conveniently located one hour from downtown Toronto. Candidates should have fellowship certification in General Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or acceptable equivalent) and be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Additional training in colorectal surgery, MIS, and/or surgical oncology is welcome but not mandatory.
