Department of Surgery, North York General Hospital (NYGH)
The Department of Surgery at North York General Hospital invites applications for a full-time
Acute Care Surgeon (ACS) to join the Division of General Surgery.

NYGH is a high-volume academic community hospital and a core training site for University of
Toronto General Surgery residents. We are recognized for our strong culture of quality
improvement, interprofessional collaboration, and commitment to resident and learner
education. Newsweek has ranked NYGH as the top Academic Community Hospital in Canada.

Our Acute Care Surgery program was one of the first of its kind in Ontario and continues to
grow. We offer dedicated surgical time daily for ACS cases. The successful candidate must
have fellowship training that complements the practice of Acute Care Surgery and must be
eligible for an academic appointment in the University of Toronto Department of Surgery.

We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative surgeon who thrives in a positive and
supportive environment. The ideal candidate will be an excellent educator, dedicated to the
academic development of learners, and interested in quality-improvement initiatives within the
Division.

Anticipated Start Date Negotiable (target: July 2026)

Qualifications
• FRCSC in General Surgery (or eligibility)
• CPSO licensure (or eligibility for independent practice in Ontario)
• CMPA membership (or eligibility)
• Formal fellowship training
• Expertise in quality improvement, education, and/or research is an asset

Workload & Schedule
• ACS blocks approximately 1-in-4 (~12 weeks per year), Call ~1 in 15
• Dedicated ACS OR for urgent/emergent cases during ACS blocks; occasional elective
OR/endoscopy time outside ACS weeks
• Outpatient clinics through the hospital’s ambulatory care clinic
