Category Definitions
- ACTIVE – actively practising and billing in Ontario general surgery; billing OHIP; FRCPSC certified
- ASSOCIATE – actively practising and billing in Ontario general surgery; billing OHIP; FRCPSC certification equivalent
- INACTIVE – FRCPSC certified general surgeon no longer/not yet practising or billing OHIP; semi-retired, mat leave, sabbatical.
- RESIDENT/FELLOW – currently enrolled in an Ontario General Surgery residency/fellowship program.
Membership Prerequisites
To be an OAGS member, you must be currently practising/living/training within Ontario. If you are located outside of the province/country and want to attend the annual meeting, you must pay as a “Non-Member Out of Province” category when registering for the event.
Active/Inactive OAGS Members should be General Surgeons eligible for licensure in Ontario and have obtained or be eligible to obtain specialty qualifications by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Must also be currently practising and/or living within the province of Ontario.
Associate OAGS Members should be General Surgeons eligible for licensure in Ontario, obtained specialty qualifications by a non-Canadian Royal College acceptable to the Board, and whose applications for membership in the Corporation are approved by the Board of Directors. Must also be currently practising and/or living within the province of Ontario. (The Associate Members shall have the same rights and privileges as Active Members.)
Resident/Fellow OAGS Members should be enrolled in a RCPSC certified General Surgery Post Graduate Program within Ontario, or Ontario surgical fellowship.
