Other: Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a term (locum) academic General Surgeon starting July 1, 2024, initially for a one year period, with the possibility to transition into a permanent position. The surgeon will be based at the Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario which serves a catchment area of more than 2.5 million residents. The service provides tertiary and quaternary level care to patients within the catchment area and plays an essential role in the support of other programs at the Hamilton Health Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate experience and training in General Surgery with breast disease focus appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre. They will be expected to participate in Clinical Care and there may be an opportunity to participate in the Acute Care Surgery Service. They will be expected to have good interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical productivity of the Breast Program, including local and regional educational and quality initiatives. Research productivity and a plan for developing a research program is considered an asset. Training in oncoplastic surgery will be considered an asset. Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery and have completed fellowship training in Breast or Surgical Oncology with a breast focus , with preference given to accredited fellowships. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario. The Division of General Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital is searching for a qualified and dedicated General and Breast surgeon to join our Department of Surgery. Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a member of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN), is a vibrant community teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, and serves one of Canada’s most diverse communities. Michael Garron Hospital has 470 beds comprised of acute care, rehabilitation and complex continuing care beds. MGH has a closed intensive care unit and full access to diagnostic imaging (US, CT, MRI). Michael Garron Hospital has undergone a major campus wide redevelopment project, and the new state of the art, eight story Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre recently opened in January 2023.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in General Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Qualified candidates must have a Medical Degree and Residency Training in General Surgery. Preference will be given to candidates who have additional fellowship training in a discipline of subspecialty general surgery, with expertise in breast surgery. Candidates must have an interest in teaching medical students and surgical residents and have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in surgical education.
