The Division of General Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital is searching for a qualified and dedicated General and Breast surgeon to join our Department of Surgery. Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a member of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN), is a vibrant community teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, and serves one of Canada’s most diverse communities. Michael Garron Hospital has 470 beds comprised of acute care, rehabilitation and complex continuing care beds. MGH has a closed intensive care unit and full access to diagnostic imaging (US, CT, MRI). Michael Garron Hospital has undergone a major campus wide redevelopment project, and the new state of the art, eight story Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre recently opened in January 2023.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in General Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Qualified candidates must have a Medical Degree and Residency Training in General Surgery. Preference will be given to candidates who have additional fellowship training in a discipline of subspecialty general surgery, with expertise in breast surgery. Candidates must have an interest in teaching medical students and surgical residents and have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in surgical education. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in leadership and exceptional interprofessional skills to further the divisional and institutional goals of growth and ongoing success of the breast program at Michael Garron Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Division of General Surgery. An interest in pursuing scholarly activity including clinical and health outcomes research is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching, supervision, and mentorship of graduate, and postgraduate students, and fellows. The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of General Surgery and participate in the general surgery call schedule. The candidate will be eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. The division of general surgery at Royal Victoria Hospital is seeking a full-time general surgeon to join our diverse group. Other: Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking an academic Trauma and Acute Care General Surgery locum surgeon starting July 1, 2024, initially for a one year period. The surgeon will be based at the Hamilton General Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario which serves as the Regional Lead (Level 1) Trauma Hospital for a catchment area of more than 2.5 million residents and is the Regional referral hospital for Neurosurgery and Stroke, Orthopedic Trauma, Cardiac Surgery, Extra-Corporeal Life Support, Vascular Surgery and Burns. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate experience and training in General Surgery and in the management of Trauma and Acute Care General Surgery patients appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre. They will be expected to have good interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical productivity of the regional Trauma Program, including local and regional educational and quality initiatives. Other: Mackenzie Health Division of General Surgery is looking to recruit an acute care surgeon to join our current group of 12 general surgeons. The successful candidate will work at both the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.

Mackenzie Health supports York Region, a population of more than half a million people. Each hospital has its own ACS service and call schedule, with a different surgeon on-call at each site. This is why call is 1 in 6 even though there will be 12 surgeons. Both of our ACS services are managed and led by a Nurse Practitioner.

The acute care general surgeon will be expected to take ACS weeks at both Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Both sites have protected daytime ACS OR time (Monday-Wednesday-Friday at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Tuesday-Thursday at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital). There is also dedicated ACS endoscopy time daily at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. The acute care surgery clinic is run through Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital complete with administrative and nursing support. The acute care surgeon is expected to take on 1-2 weeks of ACS weeks/month.

Mackenzie Health is not affiliated with any university but regularly teaches senior general surgery residents. Therefore, teaching expectations are required in this position.

All candidates must have a medical degree approved by the CPSO, an independent CPSO license, certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in General Surgery and CMPA or equivalent in good standing. Fellowship training is preferred but not required.

This opportunity will continue until we identify the right candidate for a permanent position that is currently vacant. As a small community hospital 1 hour east of Toronto we offer broad general surgery services to the community including endoscopy and an ambulatory clinic for minor procedures.
